Donations By The Eight Foundation

Organization           : Build It International
Project                     : Centre of Excellence (Zambia)

Zambia is one of the world’s poorest countries where 74.5 % of people live in poverty. Its most rural areas are the most disadvantaged where communities lack access to essential education and vocational training, healthcare, sanitation and safe water.

The aim of the project is to improve the quality of basic construction skills through a training program. Each year the Centre will directly support up to 100 new trainees. Trainees can become builders with a national vocational qualification and help transform their local communities so that they will enjoy much-needed healthcare and education facilities. Furthermore, the training means graduates will be able to secure jobs and earn more income to support their families.

The Eight Foundation provided a multi-year financial donation and ongoing commitment with certain targets to be met annually.

Organization           : The Meath Epilepsy Trust
Project                     : Home from Home (Surrey, UK)

Epilepsy is a debilitating, chronic disorder characterized by epileptic seizures. With better nutrition and advances in medicine, people are living longer. For an epileptic client, a prolonged lifespan means more severe epilepsy and accompanying associated disabilities such as autism and cerebral palsy. This enhanced vulnerability requires specialist care that families often cannot provide.

The project intends to meet the residential needs of people with complex epilepsy and multiple disabilities. The use of sustainable technology and assistive technology will allow residents to ultimately take greater control of their environment and live as independently as possible, giving the families a peace of mind that residents are appropriately cared for.

The Eight Foundation provided a single financial donation with commitment to review other requests.

Organization           : Chance for Change
Project                     : Changing Lives in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam

Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam are amongst poorest countries in Asia.

The aim of the project is to assist people who need a little help to improve their lives on a self-sustainable basis. Each candidate is interviewed and awarded small interest-free loans, provided they show need and have a plan to improve their lives in some meaningful and self-sustainable way. Examples of CFC micro loans include purchasing bicycles and taxi licenses, and goods for consumer corner store.

The Eight Foundation provided a major, multi-year financial donation and ongoing commitment with certain targets to be met annually.
